What is Ketamine?
Discovered over 50 years ago, ketamine is an FDA-approved medication now being used to treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental-health related conditions. Ketamine IV infusion is the most common type of ketamine therapy and typically takes place over a number of individual hour long sessions.
Why Psychedelic Therapy
Conventional mental health medications can take weeks or even months to become effective. Ketamine’s benefits often begin to appear within hours, and clinical trials with ketamine have shown peak mood elevation about 24-36 hours after treatment.
Why should you consider ketamine therapy?
It is fast and effective
You'll experience relief from symptoms in hours of treatment.
Ketamine has been used in clinics around the world for more than 50 years.
Get lasting relief
Ketamine has been shown to treat many mood conditions and even chronic pain
What are the Side Effects?
Side effects to medications can vary between patients.
The majority of patients experience no major side effects.
The most common effects that people describe include:
A dream-like feeling and/or drowsiness.
Double vision or blurred vision
Dizziness
Loss of appetite
These effects resolve completely within 30 minutes of the treatment
Am I a Candidate?
Adults age 18 and over who suffer from moderate-severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD who have not had success with traditional treatments are eligible for ketamine treatment. Our comprehensive evaluation will include a medical history and basic lab results to ensure ketamine is safe for you.
When to consider other treatments instead
Do not proceed with ketamine treatment if any of the following apply to you:
-
You are pregnant
-
Have uncontrolled hypertension or high blood pressure
-
Have acute cardiovascular disease or other serious heart problems
-
Had a previous negative response to ketamine therapy
-
Are allergic
-
Have a history of psychosis or increased intracranial pressure
Is Ketamine a Recreational Drug?
Ketamine has been abused as a recreational drug. Street drug use is in doses vastly higher than the sub-anesthetic doses used for the treatment of depression and other mental health conditions. As mentioned above, ketamine is used legally and safely everyday in the specialty of anesthesia and is a very safe medication in experienced hands. Incidentally, a large number of the drugs used in anesthesia practice have the potential for abuse, so ketamine is not unique in this respect. The key is administering the right dose to the right patient in the right setting.
